The IBSA Academic Forum serves as a platform for effective communication and continuous engagement among academics from the three countries. The forum is established as a formal structure of representatives supported by reference groups in each of the three countries. The last meeting of Academic Forum took place in Kwazulu-Natal, South Africa (14-15 October 2011).
Since the inauguration of IBSA, there has been an increasing interest in academic partnership between the three countries. As a consequence, several joint projects have emerged in various academic areas. The constant exchange of ideas among academics and scholars has been crucial in the development of an intellectual base to support common perspectives.
The forum has identified potential research areas on which a collaborative programme can be developed in the future, including - sustainable development and climate change challenges, food security and rural livelihoods, and macroeconomic policies for inclusive growth.
