Culture - Introduction

JOINT WORKING GROUP (JWG) ON CULTURE

IBSA countries recognized the importance of cooperation in the field of culture as a means to contribute to the achievement of their goals of sustainable social and economic development. Collaboration in the field of arts and culture gives a significant platform to IBSA countries to further strengthen their friendly ties with each other. A Joint Working Group on Culture was established to enhance the visibility of IBSA's cultural cooperation.

First meeting of JWG on Culture was held on the margins of 2nd Trilateral Commission Meeting in Cape Town (March 2006). Last meeting of IBSA JWG on Culture was held in New Delhi on 29 April 2013. JWG meetings explore the potential for greater cultural exchanges between the three culturally rich countries.

The keys themes of cooperation under JWG on Culture are as follows –

  • Research and development in arts and culture

  • Education and training in arts and culture

  • Cultural promotion through festivals

  • Cultural heritage promotion through exchange of exhibitions, experts, trade and book fairs

  • Cultural dialogue through conferences and workshops

  • Promotion of cultural diversity
