Energy - Introduction


JOINT WORKING GROUP (JWG) ON ENERGY


An IBSA Joint Working Group (JWG) on Energy was established for providing a platform for knowledge exchange on new and renewable energy development and development of clean and affordable environment friendly technologies.


Seven meetings of the JWG on Energy have been held so far. They are as follows:

  • 28-30 March 2006 (Brazil)
  • 13 -14 July 2006 (India)
  • 12 July 2007 (India)
  • 6-7 May 2008 (South Africa)
  • 18-19 September 2008 (India)
  • 12 October 2011 (South Africa)
  • 29 May 2013 (New Delhi)

The broad themes of cooperation under JWG on Energy are - renewable energy, energy efficiency, carbon trading, hydrogen energy, bio fuels, grid-interactive power, remote area electrification, synthetic/alternate fuels, energy efficiency, wind and solar energy.

A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on establishing Trilateral Task Team on Biofuels was signed during the 1st IBSA Summit at Brasilia on 13 September 2006. MoU on cooperation in Wind Resources was signed during the 2nd IBSA Summit at Pretoria on 17 October 2007. MoU on Cooperation in Solar Energy was signed during the 4th IBSA Summit at Brasilia on 15 April 2010.
