Health - Introduction


IBSA agreed to cooperate in the field of health through a Joint Working Group (JWG) to further strengthen their friendly ties. The first meeting of JWG on Health was held in Brasilia on 12-13 February 2004. Last meeting was held in New Delhi on 11 January 2013.

The areas given priority by JWG on health include - exchange of health related knowledge, IPRs on medicines and drugs, traditional medicine, integration of laboratories and sanitary regulations, epidemiological surveillance, vaccine, enhancing trilateral cooperation in the field of HIV/AIDS, malaria and TB, R&D of diagnostic tools, drugs and vaccines.

A trilateral Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on cooperation in the field of Health and Medicine was signed during the 2nd IBSA Summit in Pretoria on 17 October 2007.
