Human Settlement - Introduction


JOINT WORKING GROUP (JWG) ON HUMAN SETTLEMENT

IBSA Dialogue Forum recognised the importance of cooperation on human settlement development as the three countries share similar goals, approaches and challenges pertaining to human settlements.

A Joint Working Group (JWG) on Human Settlement was set up during the fourth IBSA Trilateral Commission Meeting held in New Delhi (17 July 2007). JWG on Human Settlements focuses on initiatives to unlock the potential of human settlement development as a driver of sustainable socio-economic development. Last meeting of JWG on Human Settlements was held in New Delhi on 17-18 May 2013.


The broad themes of cooperation under JWG on Human Settlement are as follows:

  • Development of common conceptualization and approach on human settlement development.
  • Enhancement of existing cooperation and multilateral cooperation through video conferences, workshops, regional conferences etc.
  • Cooperation in training and skills development, exchange of scientific knowledge, dissemination of cost effective building materials, development of policy framework and implementation, strengthening partnerships of Non- Governmental Organisations active in human settlements.


An IBSA Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on cooperation in the field of Human Settlement was signed in New Delhi on 15 October 2008.
