JOINT WORKING GROUP (JWG) ON TRANSPORT


A Joint Working Group (JWG) was conceived to be created to enhance cooperation among IBSA countries in the transport sector. The cooperation spans from maritime transportation to civil aviation. The first meeting of IBSA JWG on Transport was held in Brazil (2009). The last meeting of JWG on Transport was held in New Delhi on 24 May 2013.
The issues covered by JWG on Transport are -

  • Proposal for establishment of IBSA Maritime Council

  • Cooperation among Maritime Educational Institutions

  • Knowledge/Information Exchange - information on issues related to safety and security, use of LNG as fuel in vessels, cooperation in Ballast Water Management techniques

  • Training of maritime crew

  • Shipyard Development


  • A Trilateral MoU on Merchant Shipping and Maritime Transportation was signed during the 1st IBSA summit in Brasilia on 13 September 2006. During the 3rd IBSA Summit held in New Delhi (October 2008), an Action Plan on Maritime Transportation and an Action Plan on Civil Aviation were signed.
