Joint Declarations to the constitution of the conference of IBSA Supreme Courts- 24 January 2009


JOINT DECLARATION OF THE PRESIDENTS OF THE SUPREME COURTS OF THE REPUBLIC OF INDIA, THE REPUBLIC OF SOUTH AFRICA AND THE REPUBLIC OF BRAZIL TO THE CONSTITUTION OF THE CONFERENCE OF IBSA SUREME COURTS
The Supreme Court of India,
The Federal Supreme Court of Brazil
And
The Constitutional Court of South Africa
(hereinafter referred to as 'Parties')

Recognising the role of the India-Brazil-South Africa dialogue Forum (IBSA) in strengthening relations among its member countries;

Considering that one of the main goals of IBSA is to promote a better understanding in the three national societies of each other;

Noting that India, Brazil and South Africa have developed solid jurisdictional institutional in accordance with the principles by which a democratic State is bound;

Wishing to contribute to the enlargement of the issues covered by IBSA by sharing their experiences,

Have agreed to establish the Conference of Supreme Courts of IBSA Member Countries under the auspices of the Trilateral Dialogue Forum. To this end, a conference shall be organized biennially by each Party, on a rotational basis. The host Party shall define the themes to be discussed and the format of each edition of the Conference bearing in mind that its main purpose is to share information and perceptions with a view to improving the understanding of the legal systems of the other countries and to identify areas of cooperation and promote initiatives therein.
